Just heard that Virgin Atlantic have just launched a podcasting.
The website is virginatlantic.loudish.com.
Thea aim of the podcast is to use podcasting to bring you exciting and up to date content about their destinations, starting with a series of audio guides to New York.
Breda Bubear, Head of Advertising and Communication at Virgin Atlantic said: “Podcasting gives us a fantastic opportunity to communicate with our customers in a new and innovative way. We believe that providing travellers with relevant destination content will help them plan their trip, and giving it to them in a portable format will enable them to make the most of their time away. We’re very excited to be championing this new technology.”
Coventry University is to follow in the footsteps of Tipperary Institute by recording class sessions for students to listen or re-listen depending if they went to class. Movie clips will also be distributed over 3G phones. Harold Fricker and Eduardo Carrillo came up with the idea and are quoted as saying -
We are not kidding ourselves — there will always be lazy students who prefer to stay in bed or let their minds wander during the seminars. This technology provides a safety net.
The orginal idea came from Bernie Goldbach and has served many students greatly on the run up to exams.
Mixcast live has just been integrated with Big Feeder.
Big Feeder makes it easy to search and surf the latest media feeds. If you already use Mixcast you can easily upload your podcasts via ftp and tag your show in the process. Now people can subscribe to a tag and receive the recordings as Podcasts.
If you have already purchased Mixcast live you will receive 200MB of media file uploads and unlimited feeds and posts on Bigfeeder.com.
I am hoping to establish a Podcast Community in Ireland. I have already set up two content management systems but they are on an un-reliable free webhost. One called Podblog where anyone can sign up and post an item relating to podcasting. The PodArea will be a place for people interested in Podcasting to come and ask questions. They can also set up their own weblog and post their podcasts from it. What I am hoping to do is get donations and purchase a webhost for these two websites where people can join-up, get information on podcasting and upload their podcasts also.
Interesting to see that irishpodcast.com has been registered. What will become of it?
First there was Lib Syn. But now something bigger is happening Lib Dem have created a podcast. This is a fantastic way to get their opinions/goals across to people on the move.
It’s a three part Podcast of this morning’s Iraq speech - each file is about 5MB big. If you can’t use the snazzy Podcasting XML below, then links to the individual files are also provided.
grafedia: words written anywhere, then linked to images, video or sound files online.
How it works: you send an image by MMS to yourword@grafedia.net. You publicise it by writing the word you choose anywhere in the real world in blue with an underline (just like a hyperlink). The person sees it on a street corner gets out their mobile and sends an MMS to theword@grafedia.net. To anyone else it may be graffiti put to people in the know it’s a link into a wider community.
Example: Lets say you take a picture at 4am of your friend lying outside a church. You take the picture and send it to holygirl@grafedia.net. The next day you write holygirl@grafedia.net on notice boards, on printouts, on street corners etc People take notice and can get the picture by sending a blank MMS to holygirl@grafedia.net. If they do this the image is sent to their mobile phone. This service also works from your computer where you send a blank email to holygirl@grafedia.net.
So let us relate this to Podato.com, the single person can send in their recordings as usual, we then get their name and make a email like emma@grafedia.net, we/she can add the link to where ever possible for people to see. The single guy can see this and use his mobile on the spot to send an MMS to emma@grafedia.net and is soon sent her recording to his mobile and no data is swapped between the two people.
Test it out - Send a blank email to podato@grafedia.net and see what happens.
Got a Shuffle for playing your Podcasts? The ideal item for you is the iShirt.
PodShirt offers specialized apparel designed to show-off your iPod shuffle. Using a patent-pending magnetic clasp system, the iPod shuffle attaches seamlessly to the clothing to become part of the apparel design.
Sizes come in Medium, Large and X-Large with a price tag of $28.99.
Dave Winer has just registered two new websites. They are independentpodcasters.com and indiepodcasters.com, which will probably be a place for podcast lovers to go and get noticed.
The other podcasters (money grabbers) can sign up with Curry and put adverts in their podcasts.
The next podcasting show will soon begin production and will have a more appealing magazine feel to it. We will feature soundscapes, spoken approved essays, a trip around Ireland to see what other bloggers are talking about using the useful irishblogs tag. Another interesting section is Hidden Ireland, which will feature issues dealing with items that don’t appear for tourists on their guidebooks, such as places to go that offer the best meals, the best pubs to drink an authentic pint of Guinness. We already have some useful one-minute tips, which need to get out to people. MyJob will be a section for students to become involved with especially our current 3rd year students, they can record a CV like segment dealing which could be heard by potential employers who are listening and may have an opening for them once they leave college. Also an Inside View column to be spoken out be Bernie Goldbach featuring the quotes from the people featured in the article.
Once we get a couple of shows out featuring the above items, we may offer each one as a seperate feed for people to subscribe to.
The new iPod Shuffle has just been comfirmed and will be shipping soon. The shape is quite shocking as it looks more like a remote control for your T.V. This could be called an iPod mirco as it’s only packed with 1GB (240 songs). The first of the iPod family to feature a flash memory-based.
It will be available in 512 MB and 1 GB versions, the iPod shuffle is sized at 3.3″ x 1″ x 0.3″ and .78 oz.
This will be a massive hit even though people can’t control what songs they listen to, which makes it all the more fun. The suggested retail prices are $99 USD (512 MB) and $149 USD (1 GB).
Podcast Expo will have a conference in America, but I have heard rumours of the first UK conference on podcasting. Stay tuned, hopefully it will gather legs.
It all started over 3 weeks ago when Adam Curry decided to try and get sponsorship for “The Rock and Roll Geek Show“, unfortunately after Adam getting in touch they decided to put a Podcast together themselves.
Heineken Music proudly presents the very first Podcast. In this audiofile you can hear an exclusive interview with Thirst Resident DJ Daniele Davoli.
The sad news is it’s just self publicising the Heineken music, with just an interview. Not too much thought gone into eh?!
After 491,000 results google finally understands Podcast and Podcasting. Podcasting is after all the new broadcasting.

Tonight’s the night, finally Podcasting will get the attention is deserves. A 7/10 minute account of what podcasting is will feature on The Culture Show on BBC2 from 7-8pm. Check it out, it’s sure to be great what with Adam Curry being the main person to explain podcasting.
Podcasting is the latest Internet fad with the potential to shake up the way we listen to radio. Enthusiasts record their own home made shows, which can be downloaded on to portable players like an iPod. Zina Saro-Wiwa listens in.
I decided to use Google’s news service to check out all the latest podcast news. Podcast currently brings up 37 news stories, so I was hoping to find a newspaper or online source from Ireland talking about podcasting. When I searched for ‘podcast Ireland’ all I got back was ‘did you mean forecast Ireland?’. A bit slow to catch on aren’t we?
podstar.com is a site you must visit… it has all the latest news from around the world of podcasts. It’s updated everyday with really interesting content.
