First Cork Podcast Like

Tom Raftery has caught the podcasting bug. Last night he posted a blog item explaining how to podcast using wordpress, in the blog post he linked to a podcast of the blog item explaining podcasting and also linked to the podcasting feed.

Firstly Tom’s podcast is a great idea for the blind people not only around Ireland but around the world. They get to listen to Tom’s blog without needing assistance. All they need to do is get someone to subscribe to the items that interest them (from tagged items or categories) and they can conneted their iPod each day and get the latest updates.

Secondly it’s great to see the Irish grabbing a hold of podcasting and getting their voice out on the Internet. We now have 6 Irish podcasters who have gone through the whole experience and for podcatchers in Ireland it’s great to hear some homemade talent.

Tom’s podcast feed is: http://www.tomrafteryit.net/category/podcast/feed/

  1. Thanks for the link and the kind words, however I would advise any blind people to use a screen reader to listen to my blog (if they absolutely must listen to it) as the screen reader’s computerised voice will be far preferable to my monotone!

  2. Or maybe they are tired of that method and need/want something fresh and lively. Also many Irish bloggers may like to listen to your latest posts on their commute to work/college.

  3. the archive idea is good, but the clue is in the name ‘Archive’. Im sure the 24H lag makes it useless, so host it on yer own server for first 24H and look for a way to get it from server to archive without roundtripping to your office, or without duplicate upload, some casts exceed 100MB and when the A is ADSL with eircom mean 1:8 ratio the double upload of large casts would be a pain.

  4. Pete Prodoehl left a comment on my site explaining how I could use Ourmedia.org to upload podcasts to the Internet Archive without the 24 hour wait - I tried it and it works a treat!
