Since iTunes 4.9 has come available for download I have seen my daily hits double to over 400, also I am receiving much more e-mails from people needing help with podcasting.
Apple have released an updated firmware for all iPods which gives them a separate podcasting category, which means podcasts won’t get placed in with your music files. It will also support bookmarking so I can listen to podcasts and resume where you left off.
Also Apple have announced that the iPod and iPod photo lines are merging, now all iPods will feature color displays with the ability to view album artwork, photos and play slideshows in color. The simplified iPod lineup features a 20GB model, holding up to 5,000 songs priced at just €319 and a 60GB model, holding up to 15,000 songs priced at €449.
iTunes 4.9 is now ready for download.
For each person who arrives to get the update they will be wondering what the podcasting icon is all about. iTunes embracing podcasting means that more people can and will hopefully be subscribing to podcasts.
Notes:
Start podcasting your radio shows please. The demand is there according to my referers list.
The first major podcatcher for the MAC will soon be released under beta for Window users.
It’s been a deep dark secret for some time now, but we can finally announce that a Windows version of iPodderX is on its way! So not only will iPodderX run on Intel on the Mac OS, it will also run on Intel or AMD on your PC.
But the problem is by that time iTunes 4.9 should be available as the latest update. Most iPod users will automatically switch from their current podcatchers to iTunes. But it is great to finally she that iPodderX will be switching to Windows.
Just heard that Virgin Atlantic have just launched a podcasting.
The website is virginatlantic.loudish.com.
Thea aim of the podcast is to use podcasting to bring you exciting and up to date content about their destinations, starting with a series of audio guides to New York.
Breda Bubear, Head of Advertising and Communication at Virgin Atlantic said: “Podcasting gives us a fantastic opportunity to communicate with our customers in a new and innovative way. We believe that providing travellers with relevant destination content will help them plan their trip, and giving it to them in a portable format will enable them to make the most of their time away. We’re very excited to be championing this new technology.”
CastFire allows content producers of audio and video to generate advertising revenue by seamlessly connecting them with media buyers and consumers. Whether the content is entertainment, news, knowledge, stories or talk shows, the CastFire engine automatically adds relevant advertising to the content, generating a revenue stream for the content producer.
Three people arrived today looking for an “Irish Learning Podcast”. This may actually be beneficial for people to re-embrace the Irish language through this means. Maybe people in their thirties or forties who want to gain a grasp of the Irish language so they can pass it onto their children and help them with school work.
BizTart is a two minute podcast from Justine Troy featuring the latest US Business and Finance news.
It’s a perfect length for this sort of podcast content.

“More than this you need not know.”
With these two invites you can begin beta testing Odeo.
Tom Raftery has caught the podcasting bug. Last night he posted a blog item explaining how to podcast using wordpress, in the blog post he linked to a podcast of the blog item explaining podcasting and also linked to the podcasting feed.
Firstly Tom’s podcast is a great idea for the blind people not only around Ireland but around the world. They get to listen to Tom’s blog without needing assistance. All they need to do is get someone to subscribe to the items that interest them (from tagged items or categories) and they can conneted their iPod each day and get the latest updates.
Secondly it’s great to see the Irish grabbing a hold of podcasting and getting their voice out on the Internet. We now have 6 Irish podcasters who have gone through the whole experience and for podcatchers in Ireland it’s great to hear some homemade talent.
Tom’s podcast feed is: http://www.tomrafteryit.net/category/podcast/feed/

There is already 70 mentions of Ireland in the podcast feeds which have been included in Odeo. Adding your podcast feed is a very easy process and you can tag it with any amount of keywords.
With Odeo you can locate, create, and subscribe to the latest podcasts and grab independent audio content for your MP3 player.
Once logged in I quickly began to feel at home; Doppler, iPodder and Nimiq became a distant memory, Odeo is seen as a way to bring podcasting into the ears of the average Internet user. I had already seen screenshots of Odeo appear on Flickr but having full access meant I could fully interact and test it out for myself.
Firstly the colours/layout of the main page is excellent. Because Odeo is simply for listening/syncing and creating that’s what it sticks to. The main navigation appears just under the Odeo logo, just underneath it features 4 podcasters, in this area you can listen to their latest podcast/view their image and click to see their information.
Just underneath is the hottest podcasts currently being listened too with details of the amount of shows they have/comments they have received and subscribers they currently have. Below this is the latest news section which features articles relating to Odeo.
The right hand column features the most important information on the page. It offers the options to search through podcasts, browse the most popular podcasts and the latest entries. Tagging is becoming more and more information for bloggers thanks to Technorati, Odeo allows you to submit your RSS feed and tag it how you see it.
I finally got an invite from Odeo to beta test their podcatcher and podplayer. At the moment the ‘create and publish’ area is still under construction. My impressions on Odeo are that it’s really easy to use and very nice looking. More opinions coming soon…

The problem most people encounter after learning about podcasting is where they can go to upload their podcasts. The most popular podhosts are libsyn, slapcast, podlot and podbus. This may be a little off putting to people who just want to give it a try. Just recently PodBlaze launched and offers the following items:
Personalized podcasting site
Subdomain (www.yourpodcast.podblaze.com)
Podcast upload capability
RSS feed
Show notes area for each podcast show

Streaming media player
Coventry University is to follow in the footsteps of Tipperary Institute by recording class sessions for students to listen or re-listen depending if they went to class. Movie clips will also be distributed over 3G phones. Harold Fricker and Eduardo Carrillo came up with the idea and are quoted as saying -
We are not kidding ourselves — there will always be lazy students who prefer to stay in bed or let their minds wander during the seminars. This technology provides a safety net.
The orginal idea came from Bernie Goldbach and has served many students greatly on the run up to exams.
PodPay could be a new system to be placed on public transport and in restaurants. It’s basically a touch screen device connected by wifi and it has a podcast directory built in. People select their favourite podcasters and click download and listen to them to break their journey up.

What is Podcasting?
A podcast is a recorded item, it can range in any length and be about anything. You can record your own podcast via your mobile phone, a minidisc or direct from your computer.
Podcasting is the process of uploading your completed podcast and posting it onto your website. If you don’t have a website just log on to blogs or blogsome for a free website.
Once you post the location of the podcast file. It will be inserted into a RSS file. The RSS file allows people to copy the link and paste it into a podcatcher which will automatically download these shows at set times. So people can sync up their MP3 player and listen to your recording on the move.
When I first came aross the domain name back in November I thought this would be a website dedicated to bringing podcasters podsafe music to use in their podcasts. This isn’t the case and podsafe costs £49.50.
The Spec is finally up and viewable over at PSWG.
One-Click subscription describes the method of subscribing to a podcast RSS feed by just clicking a link in a web page. An application installed on the user’s computer will be invoked by the user’s web browser when the link is clicked. “Podfas are a limited edition of 250 unique handcrafted figures, fully poseable and standing approximately 3-inches tall. Each Podfas comes with 4 coloured display backgrounds and a certificate of authenticity signed and numbered by the artist.”
Podbrix was the first to jump on the iPod bandwagon and have really hit the big time. The idea of selling anything as “limited edition” usual means quick sales. Since the beginning with the launch of the 1K Brix Minifig Timi has gone from strength to strength.
Just like PodFas, PodBrix sells modified minifigs inspired by the popular ad campaign for portable music players. Moving on from the minifigs Timi produced a great t-shirt for use with the iPod Shuffle with a magnetic attachment. This quickly sold out and soon after he launched PodShirt which sells for $29.
