Takes the form of a blog and podcast that examines the podcasting phenomena and studies it with an academic eye. There are various themes the study is interested in such as whether it can be considered a serious medium as blogging has become, and whether commercialization (like it or not) has to happen before it can reach critical mass.

Tonight’s the night, finally Podcasting will get the attention is deserves. A 7/10 minute account of what podcasting is will feature on The Culture Show on BBC2 from 7-8pm. Check it out, it’s sure to be great what with Adam Curry being the main person to explain podcasting.
Podcasting is the latest Internet fad with the potential to shake up the way we listen to radio. Enthusiasts record their own home made shows, which can be downloaded on to portable players like an iPod. Zina Saro-Wiwa listens in.
Want to get Podcasts downloaded automatically to your computer while you sleep, have broadaband? Well you need to join 27.500 and download iPodder.
What is the iPodder application?
iPodder is a media aggregator which automatically downloads podcasts to your computer or portable device based on a RSS feed, leaving you ‘one-click-away’ from latest media feeds. The whole process is done on it’s own, so you don’t have to select files, search for them or click links to download the media. All you do is specify some feeds and wait to get yourself the podcasts. All you have to do is decide what your going to listen.
The best podcast I have ever heard (so far) is the podcasting session by Adam Curry the session leader at Bloggercon III. The conference lasts about 1 hour and 17 minutes and was recorded on 11/6/2004. Adam first briefly introduces the idea of podcasting and his hopes for it’s future. Also allows questions from participants talking about their experiences with podcasting mainly Dawn and Drew.
According to Dawn and Drew someone keeps stealing ideas on their shows and not giving them credit. Well to sort this Dawn wanted a podfight with the other pretenders. She went on to explain that she could send a podcast ranting madly to the group and they could reply back with another mp3 file to listen to wherever they may be.
Looking for new podcast sites I came across podcastexpo.com will be a new trade show, according to the site it will have wide-ranging exhibits and conference sessions devoted to developing, producing, editing and podcasting unique audio and video content. The complete conference program will include four different high-interest tracks during both days of the show, each featuring a combination of keynotes, expert panel discussions and other informative sessions - including audience Q&A.
They will upload podcasts of each of these programs.
You will be able to investigate new products and services, view demos, pick up literature, white papers and meet representatives from companies ranging from software to hardware .
If you are interested in RSS feeds with enclosures, hardware to podcast interviews, generating revenue from your podcasts or just learning more about this new phenomenon, this convention is for you.
It’s all happening in the Spring of 2005
Just listened to the final Daily Source Code from Adam before his move to England. Just over 40 minute long show, done to it’s usual high standards. The show includes “the mini source code” which I had the joy of listening to yeasterday. Go to Nick Starr.com to listen to an edited down version of Curry’s show (for the mini iPod as he says). He goes on the talk about Viktor Von Riesling’s podcast about learning Spainish and the phrases you need. He also features another podcast called the “One Minute Tip” which today is about keyboard shortcuts on the Apple OS X. Check it out here. Hopefully Adam will find a Wifi spot to podcast and upload from tomorrow on his way to his new home in Engand.
podca.st is basically a simple podcast site. If you can look past the pink and bright red colours used, you can find some interesting information. It’s just one page and has topics dealing from: why “POD”cast?, how did it begin and talks about the benefits and negatives of podcasts. Only visit if your a newcomer to podcasting. Overall 3/10
Podfly are looking for writers. They want someone to write daily blog-type postings on the topic of podcasting. Find out more information on how you can sign up.
The early days: Tue 11/02/2004:
Hey, I noticed your site linked to mine, PodFly.com. Now it’s gone. I just updated it, added how-to content, and improved the design. Let me know what you think.
Problems with click rate:
What’s dissapointing, so far, is that 75% of my visitors stay on the site for less than 5 seconds. So does that mean I have experienced podcasters stopping buy, or are the newbies just not liking what they see?
Beercasting is exactly what comes to mind, a group of people in a pub chatting away at any old subject.
The idea is simple:
Put a bunch of people together, add some spirits, and conversation flows in every which direction (some great, others bizarre). In short, the best conversations form in the froth of a frosty mug. We’ve outlined some of the notes for how to do one here below.
Some basic guidelines need to be followed:
Topics automatically rotate when a new beer (wine, drink, etc.) is ordered. Anyone can speak at any time, the loudest one wins. Anything goes, there’s no filtering.
E-mail from potkast.com:
Hi there. Please categorize your podcast at POTKAST.com. Happy casting, Eddie Adams.
Always nice when people personally e-mail you even if it’s this short. But if he makes time for you, you make time for him. Just viewed the website, it looks like it has potential. Firstly it designates podcasts into regions, something much needed because all people find is podcasts from America (even when the BBC were visiting Adam Curry to do a feature on Podcasting, they said “Hello America” while he was podcasting). It is currently work in progress but will be sure to change in the upcoming days.
Podfeeder is a great website, although to the visual eye it’s not the most aesthetic site around to view, with this said, it does serve the basic purpose of having 186 shows available. Each of these have the xml file location, and the show type which is very handy, so at least you know what you’re downloading. The blog hasn’t been updated for over a month now but does feature some interesting news and also a plugin for Mozilla users.
The site layout does continue throughtout the site, but is pretty simple with navigation placed at the top and uses the simple white background. The download page has links to dircaster (which creates enclosures automatically for you) and also a python script that uses rsslib to generate an RSS feed. You can also add your podcast or do it on behalf of someone else. Check out their OPML file of all their shows:
http://podfeeder.com/allshows.opml. Overall 6.5/10 [needs to update more]
I decided to use Google’s news service to check out all the latest podcast news. Podcast currently brings up 37 news stories, so I was hoping to find a newspaper or online source from Ireland talking about podcasting. When I searched for ‘podcast Ireland’ all I got back was ‘did you mean forecast Ireland?’. A bit slow to catch on aren’t we?
Want to be told when your favourite podcast has been updated? Just send the xml address to 086 0639158. Firstly open a sms message on your phone and type your favourite podcast xml location. Tim Madden has created heaps of podcast logos for anyone with a podcast. They are free to use. Check out the full range of logos. Just right-click to save and use on your site when you record a podcast.
1.) Create your content (speech, music, etc.) using your microphone or voice recorder. If it’s .wav or another file format convert that file to a MP3 file.
2.) Next you need to upload your .mp3 file using ftp to your (free) host.
3.) If your site doesn’t automatically create a RSS feed, you need to download dircaster, or if you know your way around html why not create and update your own RSS feed. If you decide on this method just add this line:
<enclosure url=”link” length=”size” type=”audio/mpeg”/>.
Sex + Podcast = Super Smart Radio Whore?
The idea of a guy called “Tech Guy Dan” who has hired a girl to just sit in front of a microphone and talk about sex. The main girl calls herself Cody Shin and deals with such stupid topics as “is it okay for a married man to go to a prostitute?”. Not compelling listen but will go down in podcasting history as the first ever podcast dealing with sex.
podstar.com is a site you must visit… it has all the latest news from around the world of podcasts. It’s updated everyday with really interesting content.
